My dreams came true in Europe.
World travel has always intrigued me; the map on my bedroom wall must have at least a hundred pins in it signifying places I need to go. These pins not only represent the kind of future I’d like to have, but also signify the numerous amounts of different cultures around the world, billions of people I could meet and share life-changing experiences with.
When I first pinned Spain on my map, I never thought I’d have the chance to spend 112 days there, learning first-hand the cultural differences. I have learned so much in my time in Spain and I wouldn’t change my experiences for anything. I left so much behind in Michigan, my family, my friends, people that have surrounded me with love for my whole life. I would not have made it through my time abroad without these strong relationships and wonderful people to support me and encourage me. I knew leaving would be difficult, and it definitely was, but it allowed me to experience so many wonderful things that I never would have had I stayed in Michigan.
In my time abroad, I was able to travel to Munich, Germany to celebrate Oktoberfest, drink beer with people from all over the world (the Kiwis were my favorite!), and sightsee around a beautiful and historic city. I travelled to Italy, starting in Naples and taking a train straight into Rome. My time in Naples was short, just a few hours dedicated to finding our way to the train station. When in Rome, however, we toured the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Pantheon, and so much more! We made wishes in the Trevi Fountain and ate the dreamiest tiramisu.
While in Spain, I ventured around the country to see as many of the beautiful cities as I could! I was able to see Seville, Barcelona, Santander, Segovia, Bilbao, and so many more! Every city I went to was special and unique in its own way, but my absolute favorite was Seville. The Plaza de España was insanely gorgeous and most definitely my favorite part of the city! Simply walking around shopping was a cultural experience all its own.
Being surrounded by history and beautiful architecture is something that I will always cherish about my time in Spain. Every cathedral, castle, palace, and monastery I entered will stay with me for as long as I live. I would absolutely recommend the study abroad experience to anyone with a love for travel, you’ll get plenty of it in your time abroad! Spain was definitely the right choice for me, travelling through this beautiful country while having all of Europe just a short plane ride away!
