The third Western Michigan University study abroad trip to Lake Atitlan, Guatemala is planned for travel in early March 2017. This year, we will be traveling with 12 students, including students from social work, occupational therapy, sociology, and nursing programs, and two faculty Drs. Jennifer Harrison and Alan Messinger. We will partner again with non-governmental organizations MesoAmerican Permaculture Institute (IMAP), San Lucas Toliman Scholars, and Mayan Families, in the communities of San Lucas Toliman, Panahachel, and San Jorge, and hope to add a climb to active volcano Pacaya to this journey for the first time.
