Spanish in Quito, Ecuador
Every person that studies a language for long enough has a moment when suddenly something clicks in your head and everything in that language starts making perfect sense. I experienced this myself the other day when I was in an Italian restaurant in Paseo mall across from campus. I was able to have a conversation with the waiter at the restaurant in blindingly fast Spanish, and I didn’t even realize that the conversation had been in Spanish until after it had concluded. Later that day, I was having dinner with my host family and I understood everything that was said with the exception of a couple words. I was also able to very quickly and effectively add my ideas into the conversation while speaking in Spanish, without them having to talk slowly or translating anything. They were all extremely impressed with my sudden improvement.
