Education and Health Across China: From Kindergarten to College
Summer I short-term faculty-led program
Hello future WMU Study Abroad candidates!
My summer program is traveling to Beijing and Inner Mongolia China. I chose this location to study abroad because I’ve always had a strong interest in Eastern culture and I’d be willing to consider a career there as China’s economy is among one of the best in the world. I’m a Sports Management graduate student and expendable funds for recreational sports is a booming business there. Overall, I’m just interested in learning to appreciate and value another culture on the opposite side of the globe!
My biggest fears about traveling are truly just embracing strange foods and the 13.5 hour flight. I’m not at all scared of the ride…just the continual half-day plus in the air. I’m most excited to see the Great Wall of China and other landmarks while being able to work with children and other students in their own educational environment.
No one but myself was really influential on my decision. I’m trying to make the most of life and this is a great opportunity to do so. (Sorry if that seems selfish). My mother was thrilled when she found out I was going. She’s very happy for me and only is high school educated, so she’s proud of the opportunities I’m creating for my future success.
As I sit here and pack, I wonder if I’ve thought of everything I’ll need to bring. Will I leave something essential behind? Have a forgetten to jot all items on my check list? Will I bring enough clothing? Too many? I’m sure I’m overthinking the whole situation and everything will be ok, but I’m such an over-preparer and would rather be safe than sorry. I also wonder if I’ve left enough packing room for gifts and souvenirs I’ll return with. I just know I’m not gonna sleep the night before we fly out! #SoAnxious #WMUSTUDYABROAD #China #HohHot #InnerMongolia #RTB
